Chipped and Cracked Tooth On My Daughter

Posted by writeradmin

My daughter had a nasty fall. Both of her front teeth were damaged as a result. One of the teeth was chipped and the other one was cracked and needs a dental crown. When I went to see her dentist, he said that he couldn’t see her for about four months. When I balked at that, he told me that we’d need to wait for her nerve endings to calm down. Is that really necessary? She’s very embarrassed about her smile.

Dear Laurie,

No, there is no reason to wait for her nerves to calm down. Either his practice is too busy and he is unnecessarily delaying her treatment or he doesn’t know how to do the bonding and he’s putting it off to figure out what to do next. The truth is, most pediatric dentists do not know how to do dental bonding so that may be the problem.

I would look around for a dentist who can see her right away. Because these are front teeth, you will want to be careful to pick an expert cosmetic dentist who will be able to give your daughter a beautiful result.

The bonding uses a material similar to white fillings. You didn’t say how old your daughter is, but that will have an impact on what type of dental crown she gets. They can be made from a variety of materials. The most common in children is stainless steel, but you will not want that for her front tooth.

There are general dentists who are good with children. I would look in that direction. Once you find one, then make sure that you take a look at their smile gallery in order to get a good idea of the type of results that they get.
